Bruderheim News Letter

May 2005

We have been very lucky at the Boys and Girls Club of Bruderheim, so far there has not been too much mud tracked inside.  You may have noticed some teens walking around Bruderheim with light blue sweaters with the S.I.K. (smoking isn't Kool) logo. The kids involved in this group were given these sweat shirts and matching base ball caps for doing such a great job on promoting non smoking.  If any of you are interested in supporting the message of non-smoking, let us know here at the club.  We are selling the hats for $10.00, about the price of a pack of cigarettes.

All the after school kids have really been full of energy these days, so we decided to have a karaoke contest this month, congratulations goes out to the winners!!  You were all great!!  A big THANK YOU goes out to Big Way for donating slurpees for the winners. In May the club will be closed on the 20th and the 23rd. We will be open in May 11th from 2:00pm-5:00pm for our after school kids.

Community access, internet, career/resume help, fax and printer are available for your use!!  We would also like to let you know about our website

www.boysandgirlsclub.bruderheim.com.  We post our events, pictures and information, also there is a buy and sell area, where you can post your want or for sale ads. This feature is free for the first while, then there will be a small fee.  So feel free to check us out.  If you have any suggestions on what we could do to better the site, you may call us or email us at brudcapyi@shaw.ca .

Things are still exciting with the Teen Program. If you are walking by and you hear music because the break dancing crew are shaking things up again.  We even have some new dancers on the scene!  If dance isn't your thing, we still offer lots of other exciting things for you to participate in, from computers to video games.  It is all about fun, excitement and socializing with your peers and of course our lovely staff Joan, Shelly, Annette and Nichole. Our regular hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm-9:00pm and Fridays 7:00pm-10:00pm. We will be open on May 11th 6:00-9:00pm. So grab a friend and come on down!!

Once again, if you have any questions or suggestions on what we can do here at the Boys and Girls Club of Bruderheim to improve, then just give us a dingle. We would be happy to help answer them for you.

The Rules

  1. Respect: We're all important, worthwhile people and when we are treated with respect, we give it back. This applies to EVERYONE.
  2. Put-Downs: The CLUB is a put-down free zone. Negative criticism, name calling etc. are not helpful and will not be tolerated.
  3. Swearing: Unless something of great weight falls from a great height and lands on your pinky toe, it is not allowed. Practice saying "Drats!".
  4. Smoking: Avoid it. Especially avoid smoking near or in front of our building. It's not healthy for our image or you.
  5. Fighting: A No-Brainer! Will result in suspension.
  6. Damage: misuse of equipment or damage to our facility will result in loss of privileges or suspension.
  7. Drugs: If a staff/volunteer even suspect you being under the influence of  drugs or alcohol while in the center, your parent/guardian will be contacted and you will be told to leave the center.  You may not be allowed back.  If you bring drugs or alcohol into the Club you will not be allowed back.
  8. X Rated Stuff: Sexually explicit conversation, behavior, materials, pictures etc will not be tolerated in any form. This is a family show.
  9. Off Limits: The telephone, kitchen area, office, furnace room and any doors marked "off limits". You must have permission for the phone and kitchen privileges.
  10. Suspension: In the event you are asked to leave the Club for more than one afternoon/evening, a letter /phone call to your parent/guardian will be made.  It is a privilege to be here.  Treat it as such.
  11. And Finally.. A lot of folks have worked incredibly hard and given much to provide you with this center.  With these rules in mind, please be our guests, have fun and we hope you take the opportunity to learn some stuff along the way.

History of our Organization

We acquired our initial funding in July 1997 under the name of "Bruderheim and Area Family and Youth Centre", and renovated an old, existing facility leased through the Town of Bruderheim. From August through November a small group of dedicated volunteers put in over 3 000 hours as the building underwent a massive renovation.

  • On September 25, 1997 the "BFYC" received provisional membership from the Boys and Girls Club of Canada.
  • November 17, 1997 the Boys and Girls Club of Bruderheim proudly opened its doors.
  • Six months later, we received non-profit society status and on November 6,1999 we became a full member of the Boys and Girls Club of Canada
  • We are the only agency, organization or club in our community and area which provides the type and variety of services that we offer.

  Purpose and Objectives

  • To provide youth with a positive future through social interaction.
  • To offer a setting conductive to positive peer interaction.
  • To provide life-skill training to prepare youth for adulthood.
  • To strengthen the family unit by offering support services and learning opportunities.
  • To improve the community's regard for young people in Bruderheim.
  • To provide an adequate facility to house the Boys and Girls Club of Bruderheim, and from which to facilitate all required applications relative to maintaining Boys and Girls Club of Bruderheim.
  • To create a community identity and to provide a positive and consistent environment from which to carry out the programs and related activities, on an individual and group basis appropriate to user's needs.
